Unlocking them to fully manifest into our lives is a key aspect of personal growth and spiritual development. This process requires sustained effort and the practice of powerful tools, under careful guidance and supervision. The role of Mudra-s & Bandha-s can serve as a vital instrument in this process of personal evolution. Mudra-s are very intricate tools of Yoga, that harness the fire within us to help nourish the inherent seeds of our capabilities. They are discussed extensively in classical texts such as Hathayogapradipika & Siva Samhita, as well as modern classics such as Yoga Makaranda of T Krishnamacharya.

Deal with the Body. Heal with the Mind | An exploration of Yoga Therapy

Venue | London, UK.

Yoga, an ancient philosophy and practice that originated in India, has been a system of health and well-being for thousands of years. Its rich approach combined with its simplicity in implementation has sustained its role in nourishing people for generations. One of the key advantages of a system like Yoga is that it views the human system as a holistic entity and hence approaches health and well being too from this perspective. This is why it offers so many tools in the healing process that address the holistic human system. Though Yoga is today associated mostly with postures, it is just one of the many tools that yoga has to offer. Some of the most profound tools in Yoga include conscious breathing regulation, meditation, life-style changes, visualizations, use of vocal sounds and food specifications among many others. This makes the healing process very comprehensive and extremely specific to the individual.

From time immemorial, the primary quest in human endeavor has been to find freedom, and embrace the depths of spirituality that we are capable of. Whether it be an oriental approach or an occidental method, we are searching for valid indications how to start this profound and important journey.

Many spiritual traditions have evolved in the Indian subcontinent over the last three millennia, which embrace this topic, either as an intellectual enquiry, or as an experiential method of living and practice, or both. While some have disappeared into oblivion, others thrive still in the contemporary time in which we live.

THE SEVEN CAKRAS | EXPLORING THE ENERGY CENTRES

The Yogin-s understood the human body differently from how we perceive it today. Apart from understanding it as a complex physiological structure, the Yogin-s also realized that we are made up of an intricate subtle body. An important part of this subtle entity is the major energy centers known as Cakra-s, which are linked together through subtle channels called the Nadi-s. Each of these Cakra-s is associated with vital physiological and emotional functions. Hence the Yogin-s firmly believed that any imbalance in the Cakra-s could result in physiological and emotional illness and vice versa.

MAHABHUTA | Yoga & The Five Elements

MAHABHUTA | Yoga & The Five Elements

Venue | Melbourne, Australia

All the Vedic schools of philosophy especially Samkhya, Yoga and Ayurveda view the world and the whole universe as an integrated entity made up of five fundamental elements that are called “pañca bhuta-s”. From the Vedic point of view the five elements come alive and manifest in various forms when linked to consciousness through the phenomenon called Prana. Our body from the time of conception onwards is made up of the five elements and is subject to these elemental energetic principles throughout our lives. It is important to understand that the old schools of healing such as Yoga and Ayurveda understood our existence based on prana and the five elements which in turn influence the make up of our constitution (dosa) and the functioning of our energy centres (cakra-s). Therefore not only all of our physique but also our behavior through our actions emotions speech and thoughts as well as our relationship with our environment is closely connected to these principles.

This inspiring and practical semianr will focus on exploring the five elements in the context of Yoga, and how to apply them in yoga practice, for ourselves or our students.

Health, Healing & Beyond | Yoga for Personal Evolution

Venue | Ontario, Canada

Contrary to the current trend, Yoga did not evolve merely as a fitness routine, but rather originated to help people maintain health, promote healing and aid them in their personal and spiritual evolution. It was not only a theoretical philosophy or an hourly practice, but rather a path of life through which students decreased suffering, identified their inherent potentials and evolved into the best version of themselves.

What is unique about traditional Yoga is that it views each of us in an individualized and unique manner, as no two humans are the same.

THE SUBTLE ANATOMY OF YOGA

Venue | Barcelona, Spain

The comprehension of our human system by the ancient oriental philosophies differ significantly from the way modern medical science perceives and understands the human body. These unique perceptions form the basis of the fundamental philosophical frameworks that originate from these ancient cultures. The philosophy of Yoga approaches the understanding of the human entity, as an inter-dependant layer of five dimensions, each influencing the other strongly. This apart, the role of the consciousness, the source of life is also strongly represented. Thus the human body is not only understood as a holistic and complex entity, but also addressed in a multifaceted approach, that brings together the manifest layers of human nature, with the un-manifest source of life..

Krishnamacharya’s Yoga tradition emphasizes the concept of self empowerment and personal expression in the journey of wellbeing, healing and transformation. This is mainly because each of us human beings are uniquely different, and also constantly changing all the time. And no one knows better about us, than ourselves. This becomes a key concept in the understanding and practice of yoga as a uniquely personal process.
